Re: Your Best XI
The team shouldn't be picked based on form alone, but also depending on the opposition, how a player performs in training, if better players become available after injury or suspension...

Case in point, in the play off final BFS decided to stick with the team who got us there, despite the fact that anyone with an ounce of sense could tell that ince was going to tear Matty Taylor a new arsehole if he was played at left back instead of McCartney. We were lucky that serious damage wasn't done before BFS finally saw sense and brought McCartney on as a sub. Could have cost us the game.

Same but with Moses for Lanzini.

What an exciting 'problem' to have.

If you have a team playing a gelling well in the formation we have there's no need to change it as we have no players playing out of position like in the example you used. Making it of course a very poor example to use.

Many said we should stick with the team that beat Arsenal for the Leicester game, that was a massive error from the manager.

What happens if the team goes on a little unbeaten run? Should we change it when Song is fit (despite his most recent form being fucking toilet) just because he's considered on paper to be a better player than say Marl Noble? Of course not.

Frankly I'm amazed that people that have never seen a player really play and one that's never kicked a ball in the Premier League think he is automatically one of our best 11 players.

Looking at the picks so far it might be the only way he can get in the team.

Of course KIA, you have to go to games to have an opinion don't you.

I must have misunderstood the thread - I just picked my best XI.

Not sure why this Antonio walks into people's best sides when he's never played at this level.

Re: Your Best XI
What ever the team is, our options available are better than they ever have been.

I trust that Bilic will use them wisely.

If a bench contains Noble, Obiang, Valencia, Carroll for example, we're in a strong position.

For me it's because I want to see pace and direct threat from wide. I've seen a lot of Antonio, and actually only one performance from Lanzini out wide (though he did well and I'd be happy to see more). I think both the new wide men go straight into the team imo, we were so short in that position.

Tomkins - Reid - Ogbonna - Cresswell
Obiang - Song - Noble - Payet
Sakho - Carroll

BUT he might not be up to this level. Surely it's better these players earn their places instead of walking into the side at the expense of players that played so well.

Why after scoring and making a goal would it be fair to drop Lanzini? How would that motivate the player? Makes no sense to me at all

Hearney 3:46 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
I'd be disappointing if we shell out £7 million for a player that might not be of PL standard!

Agree he needs to earn his place in the team but what I have seen of him I really like,

I like his attitude/confidence too.

Echo what I said earlier, these are great headaches to have,

So would I but it may take a while for him to settle in and catch the pace of the game, so for me waits for chances to come from the bench to show what he can do and when his chance comes hopefully he'll take it.

I simply can't see how anyone could justify him starting on Monday at the expense say of a player in the same position that scored a goal and crated a goal at Anfield.

Same for Moses and Carroll that haven't kicked a ball yet and Jelavik.

Re: Your Best XI
will change game by game depending on wether we home or away, the other team play wide or narrow etc etc etc

Monday I would go

..................Randolph

Jenks Reid Ogbonna Cresswell

Kouyate Obiang

Moses Payet Lanzini

Sakho

Rossal 4:11 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
They might start as their must be the belief they are better

Otherwise why bring them in in the first place ?

Moses for Lanzini makes sense for me, wont be playing on the counter so much and i think Moses offers more ability to beat a man and some width

Mr Polite 4:12 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
This is a thread about people's opinion of the best XI isn't it? Not who should start the next game.

Alex V 4:13 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
>>> Why after scoring and making a goal would it be fair to drop Lanzini?

That wasn't the question asked. It was for a best 11, not necessarily 'what would you play against Newcastle'.

As fans we have even more imperfect information on who is the best than coaches or managers do. Guesswork and personal interpretation is required to pick a 'best' anything.

Eggbert Nobacon 4:16 Mon Sep 7
Re: Your Best XI
Mr P

but as I said I don' think we will or should have a best XI as such as the best XI and formation will change depending who we play
